India Says Hello
There’s big news for strategy fans, as one of the most popular turn-based strategy franchises of all time has just arrived on mobile. That’s right. Civilization VI is now available on Android from the Google Play store. Even better, the hit PC title is free to play for the first 60 turns on mobile devices.
Civilization isn’t a series that requires much in the way of introduction. Civ players have been determining the fate of empires since 1991. The latest installment, Civilization VI, released on PC in 2016 and began making its way to consoles two years later. That was hardly the first time a AAA strategy title jumped platforms, but it’s not every day that a major franchise comes to Android.
And to be clear, this isn’t a licensed spinoff like EVE Echoes or Stellaris: Galaxy Command. We’re getting the actual game. The Android port is brought to us by Aspyr Media, who were also responsible for bringing the game to iOS and consoles. I’d say that’s a good sign, considering how well those previous ports were received.
After the free trial expires, the full game is available for 20 dollars. That may seem pricey for mobile but is way less than you’d pay for the PC version on Steam. Additionally, the first two expansions, Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm, are also coming to Android. These add-ons include several now vital features, such as Golden Ages and natural disasters. The scenario packs, bite-sized DLCs focused around historical events, are also available on Android.
There is some bad news, unfortunately, and it’s that Civ 6 still doesn’t support cross-play between platforms. That means players won’t be able to start a game on PC and continue on mobile, or vice versa. Still, the release of Civilization VI on Android is great news for mobile gamers looking for a little bit of that PC strategy flavor.
