Netherworld Delinquent

Create a team of monsters to rise as the ruler of the Netherworld. Disgaea RPG is an MMO style RPG game. This title starts where the original Disgaea left off. American Developer Boltrend Games brings players a unique cast of characters to learn about and collect. Battle your way through waves against other players.

Disgaea RPG Battle Screen

Disgaea RPG has an abundance of features, but ultimately it is a turn-based RPG. Creating your perfect team allows you to complete battles that consist of two waves. Progressing through the main story will help level not only your monsters, but your character. Your character is a human brought to the netherworld to raise The Strongest Overlord. Whichever monster you set as the party leader of your five-member team will level faster than the other members of the party.

The art style of this title resembles most RPGs, especially in its anime-style design. This works seamlessly with the underworld plot. It manages to pull off a darker tone without being overly depressing or drab. The quirkiness of the characters is reflected in their unique designs. Although all the characters are adorable, they still have that gothic flair that fits perfectly. The level of detail in the design as well as animations in the battles make Disgaea RPG visually stunning.

Disgaea RPG Main Menu

Battles in Disgaea RPG work just like any other turn-based RPG. The enemy and your party take turns attacking each other. You can choose whether each monster spends SP to use a special ability or perform a normal attack. Normal attacks have a chance of upgrading into a team attack. This is where two or more from your party join together to unleash a stronger joint attack on the enemy. Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to know if a group attack will happen before you select attack. Special abilities also aren’t clear on what they do during the battle. This might just be a translation issue. Some of the special attacks are buffs, but they will say they target one foe. This makes it seems like it’s an attack instead of raising your monster’s stats.

The battle interface is easy to read and features an interesting turn meter. Above your teams’ icons, there is a meter that lets you know when everyone’s turn is coming up. You can see how many enemies can attack before you get another turn. You can incorporate this to help you target the enemy who will go next. Disgaea RPG requires more strategy than most other RPGS. Being able to see the line-up will help you decide your next moves and take advantage of the order.

Disgaea RPG Battle Results and Rewards

Disgaea RPG is an interactive game that allows the player to create parties with a large cast of characters. Monsters are separated in different classes. Each character has their own abilities that can include buffing, healing or special attacks. Every monster has four color options available. Besides the color, there is not a difference between the purple or green Fairy for example. There are different rarities to them as well. Acquiring specific creatures that you want relies on the luck of the draw. Using the premium crystal currency, you can summon monsters that you can put into your team.

Disgaea RPG has multiple features that can be played, but each has the same wave turn-based battle design. If you can’t defeat the next wave of the main storyline, you can challenge other players in the Experience World, Item World and the Overlord’s Tower. Each location is designed for a specific purpose. Item World is best for leveling up your weapons while Experience World is better for leveling your team.

The number of features makes Disgaea RPG very complicated. Newcomers to the franchise will have trouble adjusting to how much you can do in this game. Not only are you playing through waves of enemies to level up, but you also have to level up skills and weapons.

Through Demon Eyes

Fans who have played Disgaea might have an easier time understanding this title. Since it is a follow up of the original, Disgaea RPG starts up without a clear background. It seems to almost start without any care for those who don’t know anything about the series. This along with a huge cast of characters that have their own personality. All of it can make it hard to immerse yourself in the title at first. Especially with no clear guide to characters, skills and gameplay.

Disgaea RPG can be very overwhelming, but the gameplay remains exciting even with turn-based battles being the main component. Collecting new monsters to train as you create the perfect team of delinquent demons allows you to customize your game. Overall, this exciting title maintains a unique and fully customizable experience that features a cast of quirky well-designed monsters.
