In 2001, E-WIN began their tenure as a manufacturer of car seats for luxury sports cars. Eventually moving into office chairs, the company developed a knack for creating comfortable places to rest your bum. By 2015, E-WIN began focusing their attention on gaming chairs and desks. With a wealth of knowledge on the science of ergonomics, E-WIN set out to build the most comfortable gaming chair around.
Let me start by explaining that I am a small, rail thin human (a true introvert’s body type). This is important as the comfort level of this chair’s design may vary depending on your build. Any opinions written below are from the perspective of a bony frame which should be taken into account when deciding whether the E-WIN Champion Series CPG of gaming chairs are for you. There are other versions of this chair available, but this review will cover the CPG version.
Functionality
The E-WIN Champion Series Ergonomic Computer, Gaming and Office chair is a valuable addition to the company’s many variants. It’s suitable for short and tall gamers alike, being recommended for those between 5’3” and 6’5”. I’m on the shorter side at 5’8”, and I felt as though the chair was a perfect size. My feet reach the floor (which is a bigger deal than taller gamers might understand) and my head settled comfortably upon the pillowed headrest.
Additionally, this chair provides all the perks you would expect from a top-tier gaming chair. Let’s discuss them one at a time. There is a hydraulic system allowing the chair to rise and fall to the desired height of its user. However, I did find this system to have a few hiccups as lifting the chair was a little less than smooth. I needed to push with my feet to lift the seat.
Setting the Rests
The backrest reclines close to 180 degrees allowing its user to practically lay down flat. The lever and reclining action are smooth. However, bringing the backrest up requires a little help to click into position.
There is a tilt function equipped with a locking mechanism that allows gamers to lean back and lock the chair in place without fear of tipping. Couple this with the reclining backrest and gamers can lie flat while gaming. This would make sense if your set up allows for your screen to hang above you, but I don’t see a major need for such reclining. Especially, since this chair doesn’t come with a footrest. More on this later.
The armrests are one of the most interesting elements of this chair. E-WIN calls them 4D which suits their function. The armrests can be lifted or lowered depending on your height, but they can also be moved forward and backward and twisted up to 45 degrees for maximum comfort. I found this feature to be useful due to my skinny frame. Without broad shoulders, I normally need to sit with my arms wider than usual to sit on the armrests. By turning them 45 degrees, I was able to rest my arms comfortably.
Finally, the wheels glide much like the chair’s namesake. They are champion wheels that allow for smooth movement with zero issue. I tried the chair on hardwood and carpet. Neither material causes any hiccups. You can skip out on leg day as this chair doesn’t require a lot of pressure to move across the floor.
Comfort
While the E-WIN Champion Series Ergonomic chair provides a variety of features to suit the comfort of varying sizes, is it actually comfortable? Most gamers will be sitting in their chairs for hours on end, so the throne they choose to rest their bums needs to hold up for extended periods of time.
The E-WIN Champion Series works well, but it didn’t hold up for longer than four hours. This is a long time to be seated. However, gamers stay seated for long periods of time. Whether we’re engrossed in an MMORPG, locked in to our FPS or simply exploring the myriad of planets in the upcoming Starfield, odds are we are going to stay seated for several hours.
I sat in E-WIN’s Champion Series for several hours playing my favorite RPG. I giggled a bit when my bum started to hurt about four hours in. With E-WIN’s start coming from making seats for luxury vehicles, I giggled because my bum started to hurt in the same way as taking a long car ride. Again, I am a bony human. The seat cushion for this chair is admirable, but I prefer a seat with a little more give as it allows me to sit for a little longer without discomfort.
The Champion Series comes with two pillows: one for your head and one for lumbar support. I must say, both of these cushions are high quality. They’re well made and help with maintaining proper posture. This is important as many of us will shit to humpback status while gaming. What’s more, both pillows can be removed. If they don’t suit your taste, take them off the chair. There were times this made the chair more comfortable for me.
The Final Word
I found the E-WIN Champion Series to be a valuable option in regard to its comfort level and functionality. While the seat can cause my bum to grow weary after several hours, this may be due to my body type. The stitching, fabric and hardware of this chair is durable and should last for years.
My only other gripe is in regard to the price. Currently, the E-WIN Champion Series is on sale for $369, marked down from $479. Given the comparable options available, I might say this is a bit pricey for this chair. There are others on the E-WIN site that are a little less costly and provide the same, if not more, options than the CPG version.
Overall, the E-WIN Champion Series Ergonomic Computer, Gaming and Office chairs are a strong competitor in the world of gaming chairs. While the price might be a bit steep, you get a lot of value for your money. The chairs are durable and provide a lot of functionality for the proper comfort. Bonier body types might find this chair to be a little too firm, and the lack of a footrest can render the length of reclining unnecessary. However, having all the options available ensure you will find the right positioning for optimum comfort while working or gaming.
Is It Hardcore?
Yes
The E-WIN Champion Series Computer, Gaming and Office chair provides all the features necessary for optimum comfort. Its materials are durable, smooth and provide what just about every user is looking for, even if the price might be a little steep.
