Five Android Games Like Mass Effect

With Mass Effect: Legendary Edition now available on console and PC, you may be feeling nostalgic for the sci-fi RPG series. While Mass Effect isn’t available on Android, there are some games that offer similar gameplay lurking on the Google Play Store. But to which Android titles can Mass Effect fans look to fill that outer space-themed void? Here at Hardcore Droid, we’ve compiled this list of five Android games like Mass Effect.

5. Shadowgun Legends

Taking place 10 years after aliens first invade Earth, Shadowgun Legends is a visually stunning FPS. While the title plays more like Halo, it offers a compelling plot like Mass Effect and takes place in an intriguing sci-fi environment. The story campaign includes hundreds of missions that take place across three unique planets. While you won’t have a group of quirky companions at your side, each mission can be played cooperatively. If you were a fan of Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer mode, you’ll enjoy Shadowgun Legends’ PVP modes. Duel a friend in one-on-one combat or team up in four-versus-four tactical combat. The game includes a plethora of customizable futuristic armors and weapons. Shadowgun Legends by MADFINGER Games is a great choice if you are more interested in reliving the sci-fi atmosphere of Mass Effect than the deep and branching storyline.
Available on Google Play

4. The Banner Saga Series

In The Banner Saga, players lead a caravan across breathtaking environments, battling enemies along the way, in a desperate attempt to save their clan. While The Banner Saga series’ Viking-themed setting is a far cry from the various planets players travel to in Mass Effect, the gameplay offers some key similarities. Much like the beloved sci-fi RPG, The Banner Saga is a story-based title in which each choice has serious consequences. Every dialogue option, every combat decision affects the story. Make the wrong choice and it could permanently cost you a member of your party. The Banner Saga, which was published by Versus Evil, includes 25 playable characters with unique personalities, while the sequel boasts over 30. Relationships between the player character and their companions is a key component in both Mass Effect and The Banner Saga. Each game offers compelling narratives and engaging combat systems. If you’re looking for an Android game that allows you to forge your own path and build dynamic relationships like Mass Effect, then look no further than The Banner Saga.
Available on Google Play

3. Exiles

Exiles by Crescent Moon Games is a 3D RPG that takes place on a distant planet. As an elite enforcer, you’ll unravel an insidious plot to enslave the world. The storyline is intriguing, and Exiles’ beautiful graphics make it a pleasure to explore the vast game world. Although class options are more limited than in Mass Effect, players have three to choose from in Exiles. Fight creepy aliens and mechanized enemies with a plethora of sweet sci-fi weapons. While the game doesn’t offer players an equivalent to the Normandy (the spaceship players command in Mass Effect), you can travel by way of hoverbike or mechs. A sci-fi RPG with stunning graphics and a large world to explore, Exiles is a title reminiscent of the Mass Effect franchise.

2. XCOM: Enemy Within

When threatened by an alien invasion, the governments of the world came together to form XCOM, an elite paramilitary organization. Players take on the role of an XCOM commander and must build bases, plan combat missions and research alien technologies. If this plot doesn’t remind you of Commander Shepard’s mission to destroy the Reapers, I’m not sure what will. While XCOM: Enemy Within is a strategy title, it does include some RPG mechanics like engaging turn-based combat. Your XCOM base is the equivalent of the Normandy in Mass Effect. It’s a central hub where you research and upgrade technology, and otherwise prepare for your next mission. XCOM: Enemy Within is a great choice if you’re looking for a mobile equivalent to Mass Effect with a strategic twist.
Available on Google Play

1. KOTOR & KOTOR 2

Knights of The Old Republic and Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords are fantastic sci-fi RPGs that share similarities with Mass Effect. In KOTOR, which many consider to be the best Star Wars game ever made, players take on the role of a Republic soldier who must find Jedi Sentinel Bastila Shan, the Jedi Order’s best hope of defeating the Sith. KOTOR 2 takes place five years after the events of KOTOR. Few Jedis remain and the Order is on the brink of collapse. Players take on the role of an exiled Jedi who must reunite the remaining Jedi to take down the Sith. Both titles offer a sci-fi vibe similar to the Mass Effect series. While gameplay is largely linear, the player is given many dialogue choices. Much like Mass Effect, choices matter in these games based in the Star Wars universe. Instead of earning Paragon or Renegade points, players earn light or dark side points. These ultimately determine which side of the Force you’re on and how the games end. KOTOR and KOTOR 2 are easily the best Mass Effect-esque games on mobile.
