Become an Immortal Legend
Immortal Legend: Idle RPG is an idle MMORPG developed by UnlockGame. The game sets players in a tumultuous battlefield where their character fights to gain power and transform into a Celestial. Along the way players unlock new skills and customize their characters with equipment and outfits.
An Idle RPG That’s Too Idle
Gameplay is practically nonexistent for this idle RPG. Unlike other idle games that still require some form of player interaction, Immortal Legend: Idle RPG can go on without the player ever touching their phone. This may be appeal to gamers looking for little-to-no interaction. For gamers looking to get invested, however, Immortal Legend does not make it easy to stay interested in its gameplay. The game automatically sends your character into constant combat. The only times it stops are when players enter the different game menus. The game does not explain what is happening most of the time. Instead, it throws a slew of EXP numbers at the player that flash by so quickly they are nearly impossible to read.
Players may enjoy the laid-back nature of the game and how it requires minimal interaction. But hardcore gamers who like to invest in a game and feel a sense of accomplishment will be sorely disappointed. The lack of engagement means the game has little-to-no replay value.
Customization Without Real Payoff
When starting the game players have the choice to start as a swordsman, a wizard or an archer. This is the first and the last meaningful choice players will be given. Customization from that point onwards amounts at best to customizing your character’s outfit. Equipment customization is ridiculously simple with an Equip All button that automatically equips the best gear. Although this is useful and allows easy access to upgrading, it makes earning the gear feel worthless. Even without wearing the best gear the player’s character will continue to chop down hordes of monsters. In fact, players could probably ignore upgrading gear after days of idle gameplay and not encounter any issues in combat.
Repetitive in All the Wrong Ways
Players looking to hear the same three sound effects over and over again for hours will find exactly that in Immortal Legends: Idle RPG. Combat consists of the same few actions and animations that repeat on a never-ending loop. The sound effects for the attacks and spells are mind-numbingly annoying. I eventually had to mute my phone because the noise became unbearable to listen to after having it play for some time.
Combat amounts to nothing more than the player character using the same three or four attacks to constantly defeat endlessly respawning enemies. More attacks are unlocked over time but do little to actually change up combat. Enemy types vary from tree monsters to demonic creatures, which helps vary combat a bit.
An Overall Confusing Adventure
Half the time I had little to no idea what was going on when Immortal Legends: Idle RPG ran on my phone. I opened the game one day to find I had a mercenary sidekick that the game never told me I had or explained to me how I got. The game throws the player immediately into the game without ever really stopping to explain gameplay mechanics, equipment and leveling-up systems, or even the base story of the game.
The graphics and character designs are reminiscent of early 2000s RPGs and can be fun to watch before the repetitiveness sets in. Environments are also beautifully rendered and make the game a confusing spectacle to watch. But good graphics are not enough to save this game from its lack of engagement. Immortal Legend: Idle RPG falls short where other idle RPGs successfully blend player interaction and idle gameplay.
Is it Hardcore?
No
Immortal Legend: Idle RPG provides an annoying experience with too much hands-off gameplay and no semblance of player immersion.
