Welcome to Kowloon Walled City
Amsterdam-based developer Studio [notes.] has released a demo for the upcoming game, Kowloon’s Curse on Google Play. This is the studio’s first title and [notes.] plans to launch a Kickstarter Campaign for the further development of the game on March 23rd. The game takes place in a virtual recreation of Kowloon Walled City, which was created by a man known only as Mr. Kowloon. The player is tasked with exploring the cursed city, converse with its inhabitants and figure out Mr. Kowloon’s true intentions. A single playthrough will take about 6 hours, though multiple playthroughs are recommended to unravel the full story. The game will have 3 completely different story routes, each with different events and characters.
Kowloon’s Curse Key Features
Firstly, players can talk with characters in a battle system inspired by old Megami Tensei games. It’s a turn-based system that gives the player the upper hand in battle when taking advantage of their opponent’s weaknesses. The game has over 100 characters to meet and greet through this system. By befriending these characters, players can call them for help in later battles. Players can also collect and use a wide variety of items in battle. Enemies can damage themselves from smoking cigarettes or even be fed batteries. There’s no shortage of ways to fight.
Secondly, players will uncover the mystery of Kowloon through multiple story routes. What you do influences what characters you’ll meet as well as what areas you’ll visit. The game itself has no advertisements or microtransactions so players can enjoy a creepy atmospheric RPG without any distractions. If horror RPGs are your thing check out the demo here.
