Romancing a Pigeon in London, England
Indie game studio Wristwork just dropped their first title for mobile devices. Set within the city of London, England, Pigeon: A Love Story is a meditation game. As the title suggests, Pigeon: A Love Story is a romance game. The caveat is that the player is a pigeon.
After taking on a pigeon’s identity, the player is searching through over a million NPC pigeons for their soulmate. This soulmate, of course, is another pigeon. Even though Wristworks has advertised Pigeon: A Love Story as a meditation title, they’ve explained that they’ve kept it realistically tricky. Think of it as a minimalist tracking game, only there are no hints or clues for the player to follow. It’s merely searching throughout London for your avian soulmate.
The map of London is live-streamed using Google’s Maps SDK for Unity game objects. With this, the studio was able to create a to-scale 3D London that is fully explorable. Wristwork has even stated that they’ve included the name of important London landmarks for added realism. Additionally, a limited offline mode is available that will generate a random map. You can save your offline progress and switch back to online play whenever you have a connection. One thing to keep in mind is that the studio warns that an updated device is needed for the game to play smoothly.
With all that in mind, keep your eye out for a Hardcore review to see how Pigeon: A Love Story scores as a simulation game.
