A Racing Game Lover’s Paradise

Rebel Racing, the newest title from veteran racing game developers Hutch Games is a beautiful synergy between gaming performance and aesthetics. With a comprehensive map pool and numerous challenging game modes, Rebel Racing is surely set to be your new addiction.

Rebel Racing’s graphics are the first thing that will catch your eye. The loading screen itself is beautifully designed and provides a glimpse of the various types of vehicles namely sports cars, SUVs, pickup trucks and sedans that one can drive in the game.

The tracks are designed with precision. An equal amount of attention has been given to the map’s ambiance in addition to the racing track. Straying into the gravel, sand or mud beside the racing track will have a negative impact on speed and control if you stray. The map pool is diverse and keeps you on your toes as each time you have a new challenge to face. In one race you are competing against opponents on a flat-track across the ocean, and in the next, you are racing through mountains trying to find the perfect angle to slide past the pack.

Rebels Racing’s HUD is sleek and minimalist. There are only two on-screen buttons in the shape of arrows on either side of the screen that control the car’s direction. Holding the button down enables you to drift on turns which is incredibly fun. The responsiveness of the buttons is pin-point giving you precision control of your vehicle and creating a rather immersive gaming experience. By allowing players to control acceleration and braking the game can be made more challenging and dynamic

Variety of Challenges

Rebel Racing provides players with a comprehensive pool of challenges offering up a variety of game modes. In ‘Easy Money’ you race against an easily beatable opponent to earn money for car upgrades. Double Payout is a mode which leads to earning double the reward money for winning the race. This game mode has a cooldown of a couple of hours once played. The most interesting game mode is ‘Ladder’. With each win, the game pits you against a harder opponent. The pay-out increases gradually and also leads to unlocking of other game modes and car upgrades. The hardest of all game modes is ‘Boss’. Racing against the boss is a test of your skill and leads to the highest pay-out. Beating the boss requires effectively utilizing upgrades made to your vehicle.

Take Control of Your Vehicle

One of the core aspects of Rebel Racing is vehicle customization. The game constantly provides incentives for players to upgrade their vehicles. Because upgrades lead to the unlocking of new game modes and higher level upgrades. Furthermore, after nearly every race the game suggests an upgrade. Naturally, an upgraded vehicle increases the chances of you winning and unlocking better upgrades in the future.

Six aspects of your vehicle are upgradable, namely – Intake, Tires, Exhaust, Nitrous, Gearbox and Engine. You’ll need to make a conscious decision about which aspect of your vehicle to upgrade as each upgrade improves vehicle performance in a different manner. In addition to performance, designs can also be customized. You can paint, add decals and other designs to customize your car exactly the way you want to.

A Tad Away from Being Perfect

Rebel Racing omits one of the most primary requirements of any racing game – a track map. While racing one does not know how long the track is or even the design of it. Decisions need to be reactionary rather than pre-emptive. In tougher races, especially those against bosses this leads to a disadvantage as one cannot decide in advance when to use the nitrous or on which turns to be aggressive.

An even greater drawback is that you need a stable internet connection to play. Connecting to the servers is a requirement without which the game will not start.

Rebel Racing is not just about defeating opponents on the track. It provides a holistic challenge to its players by placing importance on all aspects of the game such as customization, inventory management and of course car upgrades. With multiple game modes to challenge your skills and numerous customizations to excite your creative juices, Rebel Racing provides an addicting gaming experience.

Hardcore?
4.5

Yes.

An amazingly designed game, Rebel Racing’s aesthetics are complemented by incredible gameplay. Once you get your hands on it, you’re guaranteed to be in for the long haul.
