Bring Out the Big Guns
Blizzard has finally joined the mobile battlefield with their new title WarCraft Rumble. Fast-paced squad combat awaits players in the colorful world of Azeroth. Can this legendary developer deliver another knockout blow?
Long Time Coming
Apart from Hearthstone, Blizzard’s absence in the mobile gaming industry has frustrated many. They have many excellent IPs that would translate well for on-the-go gaming. So, when the announcement of WarCraft Rumble was made I was both excited and apprehensive.
Mobile gaming is full of what seems like F2P design templates that they just swap out skins for. Especially in the strategy category. I am happy to announce that WarCraft Rumble went all in on quality and straight-nailed it.
Get Ready to Warcraft Rumble!
WarCraft Rumble is a hero/squad-based strategy game. You collect a variety of “mini’s” that all have different strengths, weaknesses and roles. You then deploy them and destroy your opponent’s tower before they do the same to you. Limited by the cost of your minis and their abilities, careful deliberation is needed to ensure victory. All this takes place in three minutes or less, so you had better be on your A-game. Combine all this with beautiful animation, fun single-player puzzles, quests to level up your minis and PVP, WarCraft Rumble fires off on all cylinders.
Gold or Grind?
I have yet to find a perfect mobile game and WarCraft Rumble is no exception. While I have yet to hit a paywall, I have noticed a significant rise in difficulty. Especially in PVP. You can grind out quests to level up your mini’s, replaying some single-player puzzles during Arclight events can earn you some extra gold to expand your collection and completing dungeons can increase your army’s strength. Or you can just buy new minis and powerups for the old pay-to-win mechanic. This can range anywhere from 1.99 to 99.99 so players beware. Some people will pay a lot to top the charts.
There have also been a few technical difficulties that have resulted in log-in problems, unusable buttons and multiple crashes. Blizzard’s technical team seems to be on top of things though so let’s hope they all get ironed out.
With Warcraft Rumble it’s in the Bag
All said and done, Warcraft Rumble is fantastic. It’s a beautiful, action-packed fun fest with recognizable characters guaranteed to chew up that long wait at the DMV. New to WarCraft or not, this game is well worth your time. Join Hardcore Droid’s guild or look for me on the battlefield. See you there!
Is It Hardcore?
Yes, yes and more yes!
New to World of Warcraft or not, this game is a fantastic, fast paced action bonanza. Be prepared to get hooked.
