Step Aside, iOS
XCOM 2, the sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, released on major platforms in 2016. The tactical turn-based game enjoyed a generally positive reception from critics and gamers alike. Now the XCOM 2 Collection, previously announced only as an iOS release, has been confirmed to be coming to Android devices sometime in 2021.
In a recent post, Twitter user Mosey remarked to developer Feral Interactive that it was “crummy” that the game would release as an iOS platform exclusive. To this, the developer only replied: “There will be an Android version next year, Mosey.” This casual announcement provided no details such as price or intended release date. However, it definitely gives Android players something to look forward to.
On iOS, the XCOM 2 Collection costs $24.99, and Android users can likely expect a similar price. That might seem a high price tag for a mobile game. However, the bundle provides players with the complete XCOM 2 experience. It includes the full game, the War of the Chosen expansion and four other DLCs.
XCOM 2 is a direct sequel to 2012’s Enemy Unknown. In the game, aliens have taken over the Earth, hiding a nefarious, totalitarian agenda behind promises of a brighter future for mankind. XCOM, a human military organization intent on fighting off the alien invasion, has been defeated. All that remains is an underground resistance force.
Players command a guerrilla squad of the resistance, using turn-based combat and strategy to invade enemy occupied areas. Between missions, players oversee the operations of the Avenger, a commandeered alien ship that serves as an XCOM mobile base.
For those gamers impatient to get in on some turn-based alien slaying, XCOM: Enemy Within, the standalone expansion pack for Enemy Unknown, is currently available for purchase from the Google Play Store.
