Let’s face it: as gamers, we fancy ourselves royalty. Kings and queens if you will. I mean you can’t spend thousands of hours vanquishing foes and saving helpless NPCs without gaining some imaginary accolades and a sense of confidence difficult to replicate in the outside world. As the self-anointed Kings, Queens, Princes, Princesses, and other miscellaneous noblemen, we need thrones to sit upon while we attend to our essential royal duties. Thanks to America’s number 1 company for gaming chairs E-WIN, we can now do just that with their Flash XL Size Series Ergonomic Computer Gaming Chair.
This E-WIN gaming chair tends to a variety of body types, being recommended for a height range of 5’7 to 7’0 on E-WIN’s website. I’m 5’11, 6’0 on my best days, and the chair was perfectly comfortable for my likes as far as leg room and posture are concerned. The chair is also designed to hold up to 550 lbs, which is roughly up to four and a half people at once. Unfortunately, the chair is not wide enough to sit three side by side so you will have to sit on top of each other. Still, it rivals some of the best heavy duty gaming chairs on that front.
Assembly
Like almost every gaming chair, before use one must break out their tool belt and hard hat and put the thing together. When you open your E-WIN Flash XL Size box, about a dozen separate pieces will fall out, including an instruction manual. I’d advise you not to be intimidated by this. Despite the preponderance of parts, the assembly process can be quite quick and the instruction manual makes everything come together smoothly. Among the parts are two allen keys, which are the only tools you necessary for assembly, so you can disregard my snarky toolbelt comment.
Anecdotally, I ran into quite some trouble when screwing the backrest of the chair onto the seat base. I started by screwing in one side with the allen key and hex bolts provided. When I proceeded to the other side, the holes in the back rest did not align with the base seat’s hinges. I ended up unscrewing the whole thing to try it again.
Again, the holes did not align. After I tried it a third time and the wholes still did not align, I was ready to chalk it up to faulty parts. I forced myself to try once more for good measure and lo and behold I was able to secure the backrest. I feared because I had extensive struggles securing the backrest, the hex bolts would be screwed in at a wonky angle and therefore compromised. It’s been three days since the assembly and so far that issue has not come in to play so I am optimistic. Beyond that hiccup, the assembly was a smooth-sail process.
Components
Besides being a place to seat your butt while you game or do other more adult-like activities, the E-WIN Flash series is equipped with a multitude of elements to assist and elevate your comfort levels. The back rest can tilt practically 180 degrees backwards, so you can just about lie down say if you’re watching a movie or want to take a quick break between paragraphs while writing a review. Additionally, you can adjust the height of the arm rests. You can bring them up or down depending on your position on the chair or your own height.
One can adjust the height of the chair as is the case with your standard gaming chair. You can also rotate the arm rest to change the angle they sit at. I’ve owned about four different gaming chairs in my life, all from different brands, and not one of them had these adjustable arm rests. Is it a make-or-break feature that I see myself using often? No. But it is an interesting feature nonetheless and the novelty of it is certainly a plus.
Another comforting component of the E-WIN Flash chair is the two pillows, one for your lower back and one to rest your head. My back pillow seems a little high compared to the one in the ads and pictures online. Luckily that has yet to affect the comfortability of the chair itself. And the pillows themselves are quite comfortable too. Not too hard, and not too soft but just right in Goldilocks terms. The pillows are a nice cherry on top of the sundae of ergonomic satisfaction.
Comfort
Perhaps the most important aspect of a chair is how comfortable you feel on it. I.e. do you want to sit in this thing that was built for sitting on. To be sure, most gamers, office workers, and remote workers sit for longer than is ever comfortable. When I first sampled my E-WIN Flash Series, I enthralled myself in a roughly four hour long gaming session. At the end of that, I got up not particularly ready to sit back down again for at least a few minutes. That wasn’t on the chair, that was on me playing video games like there was no tomorrow. But prior to those four hours, I quite enjoyed sitting in my E-WIN Flash series. About as much one can anyway.
You see, when you’re gaming, oftentimes you block out the outer world to focus, especially if it is a particularly exciting game. That in mind, one of the best things a gaming chair can do is not get in the way by providing a comfortable sitting experience. While gaming, I’m happy to say that the chair was excellent at not getting in the way.
I even pushed back in exasperation a few times during very close firefights in Halo which I lost. To my contentment, the back rest and pillows caught me. The wheels of the chair hit the rug behind me and pushed me forward again ever so slightly. It felt like a metaphor for a good gaming chair. Not only will it be there to catch you, but it pushes you on and encourages you to play on. I can say with confidence that the E-WIN Flash XL Size Series Ergonomic Computer Gaming Chair is indeed a good gaming chair.
