All-New, All-Different
Marvel Entertainmentâs reach across all forms of media is truly unparalleled. With massive blockbusters stemming from comic book roots, itâs no surprise theyâve established a solid presence on mobile. Marvelâs heroes take center stage in RPGâs, puzzle games, and combat titles, among others. In the end, though, it all comes back to the comics. In its most recent update, Marvel Unlimited seeks to bring the medium to new heights.
For the uninitiated, Marvel Unlimited is a standalone app to the main Marvel Comics storefront app. For a modest subscription fee, users gain access to over 29,000 digital comic issues that span more than 80 years. Although the base-app has been around for several years, this latest update adds more than ever before.
Turning a New Page
The main feature of the update is an entirely new format of the medium- Infinity Comics. These are Marvel Unlimited exclusive stories, told completely in vertical orientation. This optimizes reading on smartphone and tablet devices, allowing artists new avenues in which to depict the action. At launch, 27 brand-new issues are available in this style. These come from some of the biggest names in comics, including Kelly Thompson, Jonathan Hickman, Skottie Young, and many more. Over 100 more individual Infinity issues are on their way through the end of 2021.
Among the other additions is a more streamlined âTeamâ selector that shows you recommendations based on favorite characters. To expand readersâ discovery of new titles, the previous 12 issue limit for downloads has been done away with. You can craft your in-app library with the series you want to check out and download as many as you like for offline enjoyment.
Giant-Size
Marvel Unlimited is starting to live up to its name. With so much already in store and on the way, now seems as good a time as any to learn more about your favorite on-screen heroesâ historic appearances. Personally, I would recommend checking out anything by Donny Cates, especially his Silver Surfer: Black miniseries.
In any case, let us know what you think of the update! Do you think anything else should be cleaned up or added? What are you looking forward to reading the most? Drop your feelings in the comments below. As always, keep an eye on Hardcore Droid for all things Marvel on mobile!
