Welcome to our Pascal’s Wager Chapter 1 Walkthrough
Pascal’s Wager is an intense new Action RPG by Giant Global which is largely inspired by the Dark Souls franchise. As you might have guessed it’s not the easiest game to master. Enemies are unforgiving and require the use of strategy to beat. Luckily, here at Hardcore Droid, we’ve created a Pascal’s Wager Chapter 1 Walkthrough to help you get started.
Defeat the Marred
The game begins with a cutscene as Terrance and Viola sit by a campfire. The Heggem Colossus—a giant creature emitting light capable of dispersing dark fog covering much of the world—is on the move. Humans can’t survive outside of the light of a colossus, so this means the village of Heggem will be abandoned. Terrance decides to investigate the town.
After the cutscene, head forward down the path. Rounding the bend you’ll come across your first Marred. After defeating it continue down the path. A short cutscene will play in which Terrance notes human blood on the ground. Then you see the silhouette of something called a Sifler run across the bridge above you.
Meet Up with Viola
Continue under the bridge where you’ll face another marred. Head between two buildings and take the path to the right. You will find a chest inside that has a mutated claw trophy—equip it under the trophy menu for Attack +8. There is a door next to the chest, however, it cannot be opened from this side so ignore it for now.
Head back to the fork in the path, this time taking the route to the left. As soon as you enter the clearing, you’ll come across a reptilian marred creature which you’ll want to defeat quickly. This is when the game will introduce you to the abnormal state. Drink a sanity potion to return to normal or stay in the abnormal state for more of a challenge. Before starting up the mountain path, walk over to the brazier by the low fence. Beside the brazier, you’ll find a Heggie, a small bulbous, frog-like creature. Dedicate enough bone fragments, sanity, and Anthozoan bones to Heggie and receive a dominator crystal. You can use it to barter with Viola later.
Follow the steep path at the edge of the clearing until you trigger a cutscene with Viola. Listen to the conversation between Terrance and Viola in which the latter reveals that Heggem is completely overrun by marred. You learn that a witch may have something to do with Heggem’s fate.
Go to The Mountain Top
After the cutscene click the altar button to activate the altar to your left. Dedicate any bone fragments in your inventory to the altar—dedicating enough bones allows Terrance to level up. Under the recovery tab, click rest to save your game and heal. Warning—resting revives all the marred you have slaughtered.
From the altar, move down the path. Around the corner of the building ahead lies a marred, so be prepared to fight. After defeating it, head forward across the bridge. At the end of the bridge, you’ll find a Sifler—a goblin-like creature—selling supplies. Take the ramp to the left and continue along the path. You’ll find yourself on a roof with a ramp to your left and a path ahead of you.
Stock Up on Side Quests
Continue walking straight. You will quickly come across two marred. After defeating them, head out between the stone braziers and take the path to the right. You’ll find yourself on the other side of the door we ignored earlier. Open the door—this will allow you to use the shortcut.
Turn around and continue up the mountain path. You’ll quickly come across an old woman. Speak to her and she’ll ask you to find her missing son, Jerry. This begins the side quest: The Women Looking for Her Child.
Continue up the path past the woman. The path dead ends but there is a chest to open. Turn around and backtrack until you reach the ramp on the rooftop we passed by earlier. Take the ramp. On the next rooftop, you’ll find a marred. Head up the ramp, kill another marred and take the up ramp to reach a mysterious talking egg. A voice from within the eggs asks Terrance to retrieve a tear stone. It’s the only substance strong enough to melt the egg’s shell and free the person imprisoned within. This starts the side quest: The Tear of Heggem.
Turn around and head all the way down the ramp. There will be a marred to your left. After killing it turn to your right. There is a marred up on a ledge to your left. Lock onto the marred and take it out with a few throwing knives. Continue down the path.
Jerry’s Fate
A cutscene centering around a mysterious man in a gold mask will play. Walk to the edge of the broken bridge. Hold down either the heavy or light attack button to kill the marred beneath you with a jump attack. To your right is an altar, activate it. After, turn around and head down the path where you’ll soon come across another reptilian marred. After defeating it continue down the path.
You’ll come to an intersection by a house with three paths: a steep path up a hill, a straight path, and a cave entrance. There is a marred hanging above the cave waiting to drop on you. Lock on to it and use throwing knives to quickly dispatch it. Follow the path ahead until you reach a dead-end where three reptilian marred await you. After defeating them, click on the shining item on the ground to find Jerry’s gore stained coat. You need this for The Woman Looking for Her Child side quest. It seems Jerry met a tragic end. To complete this quest, you will need to return the coat to Jerry’s mother.
The Knight
Backtrack to the cave entrance. Head through the cavern until you come across a barred gateway that you are unable to open. Kill the marred near the gate and continue up the path. You will find yourself in a large cavern with a glowing blue light. Head toward the light beneath which you will find a marred Knight. The Knight is far more difficult than any enemy you’ve faced thus far. Watch out for his spin attack and remember to utilize dodge.
After slaying the knight approach the statue of a woman covering her face and pick up the tear stone. You’ll need to bring this back to the giant egg to continue the side quest.
Side Quest Wrap-up (skip ahead to continue the main quest)
Head back out of the cavern the way you came in. Take the upward sloping path across from the cavern. Turn left and take out the marred archer on the ramp. Jump down and cross to the long ramp. Talk to the egg at the top of the ramp. Rub the Tear stone on the egg and it will hatch revealing a marred creature you’ll need to battle. Kill the creature to complete the quest.
Turn around and follow the path to the second rooftop. From there take the path to your left. Head between the braziers and speak to Jerry’s mother on the path to your left. After informing Jerry’s mother of her son’s fate the quest concludes.
Back to The Cave
Return to the cavern. Take the upward sloping path, next to the path you took into the cavern. A reptilian marred awaits you here. Take him out and head into the small chamber behind him. Climb the ladder in the back-right corner.
You emerge in a large cavern with an altar directly across from you. Activate the altar then open the chest to the right. Near the chest is a ledge you can jump down on. Continue down to the next ledge where you find another Heggie. Dedicate health potions, bone fragments, and Anthozoan bones to Heggie to receive a reward.
Watch Out for Poison!
There is a hole in the ground here, beneath which waits a plant-like marred. Jump down while holding down the heavy or light attack button to attack it from above. This creature is stronger than your typical marred and releases clouds of poisonous gas which you’ll want to dodge. It will also pounce but will stay down for a moment after it attempts this attack. This gives Terrance an opening.
After killing the creature, open the chest then approach the lever and open the gate you passed by earlier. Head through the gateway and back up to the cavern with the altar. Leave the cavern through the archway on the left.
You’ll find yourself in the middle of a mountain path. Going down will lead to more enemies and a third Heggie but there’s no reason to go that way. Head up the mountain path and step through the stone archway to trigger a cutscene. Make sure you’re healed and stocked up on potions. You’re about to enter your first boss fight.
Defeat the Flagellant
The Maddened Ascetic is an intimidating foe who towers over Terrance and wields a flail. You can’t just hack and slash your way through this one. Be sure to keep your sanity in check during this battle or you’ll find yourself at a large disadvantage. If you allow your sanity to be entirely depleted, you’ll be forced to finish the fight in Lunatic mode. This allows the Maddened Ascetic access to extra powerful attacks.
The Maddened Ascetic has several attacks up his sleeve. Often, he swings his flail at you, then attacks swiftly with his unarmed hand. He also has an attack in which he slams into the ground. It’s a devasting attack that leaves him open to assault. The best way to beat him is to learn his moves and time your dodges. When you get an opening swing your blade once or twice then fall back out of range.
Go to Adamina
After defeating the Maddened Ascetic, a long cutscene will play. When it ends, you’ll find Terrance aboard a caravan along with Viola. Head over to the table and open the map, click on Adamina and tap choose. This concludes the first chapter and begins Chapter two-Adamina.
